In Germany, the past few years have seen economic growth and gain intersecting with Global Climate mandates. In the Spring of 2007 under the EU rotating presidency of Chancellor Merkel, the EU devised a plan to cut the continent's green gas emissions by 20 percent by the year 2020 and for ten percent of all transportation vehicles to run on Biofuels. What seemed like an economic edge for farmers soon was to loose it's ground. The following Autumn of 2007 the German Parliament voted to over-turn the Biodiesel tax free status and to implement a five-year tax increase scheduled to begin January 2008 - as a result Biofuels are now nine Euro cents per liter more expensive. Next year, 15 Euro cents more expensive. This five-year incremental tax increase will see green fuels equal in price to that of conventional diesel fuel.
