He established his reputation as a maverick photographer with images from the political scene in the Ronald Reagan years (1980-88) and student demonstrations in Tiananmen Square in China (1989), as well as a famed black and white essay for Time on New York (1990). He has covered every U.S. presidential campaign and seven Olympics Games since 1988. He is the author of Just Another War (Bedrock Press), a photographic black and white personal diary from the Gulf conflict (1991). He has been a member of Contact Press Images since 1986.
