He reports on social-political and economic issues. He resides in Riga, Latvia, and in the Capital of the Czech Republic, Prague. Thorsten is born in Trier, Germany in 1980. He lived, worked and studied in Germany, France, Switzerland, Latvia and the United States. He is fluent in English, German, Latvian and Dutch, and has sophisticated language skills in French. Although the passion for photography came during high school, it was during a trip to Italy that photography became more then a hobby. Soon after, it became fast his tool of choice to give other people the opportunity to communicate with a broader audience. During study visits to Paris (France) and Lugano (Switzerland), he discovered the fascination for humanistic black and white photography. Nowadays, most of his reports and portraits are black and white photography. His works are widely published in newspapers, magazines and online media. He reports on political, social and economical issues. In 2009, he received grants from Renovabis and the BMW Herbert Quant Foundation to work on migration issues. His latest work include a long term assignment to U.S. Interest in Latvia (2008), the Martin Luther King Day and the Inauguration Day of the first afro-american President of the United States in Washington DC (2009) and works on forced labor, human trafficking, migration issues, poverty and social cohesion in 2009/2010. In 2010, Thorsten worked as an intern at the Parliament in Brussels, Belgium and at the Gubernatorial Race of Governor Terry Branstad in Iowa, United States. Thorsten likes modern and contemporary literature, swimming, hiking, classical music and jazz.
