Unfortunately the picture editor sacked me on Friday, 17th March, 1995, the day Ronnie Kray died. There is a story behind that involving the Blind Beggar pub and a bunch of flowers but that's all I'm saying. A short career in PR photography and photographing Fulham in West London followed until a vacancy came up at Photo News Service at the Old Bailey in 1998. Two years of walking backwards photographing people coming out of court resulted in a staff job at the Press Association. They started me out as the East Midlands photographer before sending me over to Ireland. I was delighted to be asked (amazing trout fishing) and those five years taught me how to be an agency photographer, with plenty of news politics, international sport and horse racing. Belfast was a safer place to work by then although we still seemed to attract rubber bullets and showers of rocks during the Marching Season. You only really realise what you like about a country until you live abroad and after five years I resigned to return to Blighty. Ireland soon drew me back though after I was offered a job as the picture editor of Metro newspaper in Dublin. I lasted a year before returning to the green and pleasant land for good. Making films had never really appealed to me but in 2008 I started working with Substantial Films on a casual basis and ended-up becoming their director of photography. I shot my last documentary with them in December 2011 and with no more filming until late 2012 I decided to set up Global PR Photo. So far I've done a couple of things for Warner's Solicitors in Tonbridge, Kent in addition to a steady stream of news jobs.
