I became fluent in Swedish. I ate cheese from a tube. In 1989, we moved to beautiful northern California. I started school and learned English, and forgot Swedish. I wore parachute pants and a rattail haircut. During my first year at UC Berkeley, I stopped taking pictures of my friends skating and began to focus on photojournalism.
