Images by Ethan Rafal (Lightstalkers) http://www.lightstalkers.org/ethan-rafal artist, photographer, writer. work often starts journalistically, ends conceptually... whatever means to the same end: relay phenomenon to those that do not have direct experience... currently: -editing a non-fiction piece on my experiences in darfur. 20 months of writing... now waiting for publishers' thoughts... huh. maybe one more rewrite... eek. -shooting a long-term photo based project on the effects of war on the domestic landscape... splitting my time between sedentary editing and vagabonding back and forth and back and forth round, round and round the united states. june-august: alaska. september-november: hitch from north west to the south east and then up through the appalachians. then, finally, done! focusing more on rural america than anything else, the red states, the down and out, those off the radar, those who often both supported the bush admin and, ironically enough, have had their lives most severely damaged by the regime... the project spans 2001-2008. though, both conceptually and literally, it exists in two parts, shot primarily from 2001-2004 and revisited in 2007 to the present. it's a wonderful, nutty, grim series and i only wish i could show you... the catch? all shot on film, film, film... and now... all on old american cameras... en-us
