[Lightstalkers] Going to Cambodia... http://www.lightstalkers.org/going_to_cambodia An entire Lightstalkers thread via RSS/XML. en-us Going to Cambodia... In mid-spring I am going to Cambodia for one month to do stories with my girlfriend (who is a journalist) and our 8 mth. old son. Does any one have some Genneral experiences to share regarding the countruy, culture, ways to behave, work, bureaucracy and so on? And allso; does anyone have suggestions for must-do-while-there-photo-projects? Advices on travelling with small children in warm countries will likewise be much wellkome! No problem Thu, 01 Feb 2007 03:07:01 +0000 http://www.lightstalkers.org/going_to_cambodia#56582 Re: Going to Cambodia... The "returnees" are a story in themselves - but they're also a good resource for translation, assistance, etc. Most of them are desperate for work, so if you are going to be hiring translators, etc, I would really urge you to hook them up - you should be able to reach them through Bill Herod at the Returnee Assistance Program in Phnomh Pehn. http://www.camnet.com.kh/cambodia.daily/selected_features/cd-30a-7-05.htm hopefully this contact info for Bill is current: Bill Herod, Coordinator Returnee Assistance Project (RAP) Phnom Penh, Cambodia E-mail: info@rapcambodia.org Phone: 855-11-736-123 Thu, 01 Feb 2007 20:54:09 +0000 http://www.lightstalkers.org/going_to_cambodia#56692 Re: Going to Cambodia... if you're looking into a returnee story, you could also look up Srin "Leesha" Jessica. I knew her and her husband well, and she has been a fixer for work on the BBC and for the South China Morning Post magazine. She also knows a lot of the original batch of returnees, many of whom have left Bill/RAP. mony_jessica@yahoo.com http://www.lightstalkers.org/good_fixer_in_cambodia Thu, 01 Feb 2007 21:21:16 +0000 http://www.lightstalkers.org/going_to_cambodia#56694 Re: Going to Cambodia... Thanks all for the exellent adwises! The trip have now been postponed till autumn due to risk of malaria for infants but the more time for preparation... Information like this is invaluable and what makes a trip a success or not. LS rules! Fri, 02 Feb 2007 11:29:50 +0000 http://www.lightstalkers.org/going_to_cambodia#56773 Re: Going to Cambodia... Ty, DON'T stay in Denmark. Infants could catch the flu, or cancer, or diabetes, or whatever... ;-) Malaria is around all year in Cambodia. And so is dengue, and diabetes, and chicken flu, and SRAS, and TB, and AIDS and so much more (but not much more than in Denmark). But then of course there are no mines in Denmark... Number one killer here is the road (or is it two?) !!! Fri, 02 Feb 2007 11:58:56 +0000 http://www.lightstalkers.org/going_to_cambodia#56784
