South America

I am thinking about going to Chile and Argentina in Feb 2007. What is the weather like at that time of year? Would like to go South and hike in the Countryside any tips? Meanwhile mixed weather here in Bda for Xmas. Probably will work to get the World Press awards exhibit to visit Bermuda later in the year. If your digital don't lose your pixels...Happy Xmas and and a Merry New Year ^..^

Hi Graeme, Argentina has diferents regions to visit like Patagonia, Costa Atlantica, Pampa, Cordillera de los Andes, Norte, Cataratas... It means that you have many kinds of Weathers, Feb is High summer = holidays, so dont forget to keep shorts (bermudas!!) and sunglasses. If you are coming to NOA (Arg North West), just call me... Bye

Re: South America

Been there in December-January. Was melting hot in Iguazu, while rain-snowing at Fitz Roy.

Lonely Planet has a very good "treking in the patagonian andes" book if you want to go hiking.

I did some hiking in Parque Nacional Los Alcerces (from Futalefú) and PN Lago Puelo (from El Bolsón), both nice summer weather, PN Los Glaciares (from el Chaltén) and PN Torres del Paine (from Puerto Natales, this Chile), both cold weather, glaciars, wind, rain, some snow (in their summer).

The first more northen two are nice places, specially because they mainly get local hikers, easy day hikes, localy held camping places. The second southern two are world famous, turistic (which implies easy ways to arrange things), also not difficult hikes, except when weather says different, and they are just spectacular!

Hope it helps, if you need more practica info, just email.
Gabriela.
