[Lightstalkers] Canon 24-70 2.8L problem and question http://www.lightstalkers.org/canon_24_70_2_8l_problem_and_question An entire Lightstalkers thread via RSS/XML. en-us Canon 24-70 2.8L problem and question I have here a Canon 24/70 2.8L wich is optically and externally in excelent condition. The problem is that when I use the zoom it makes a noise, like a screech (I really don't know the exact word in english), like if it got wet inside at some point. Is this a real problem? Does it need a cleaning? Or should I forget about the issue? Thank you in advance and please excuse my poor english. Take care, Diego. The camera thankfully was undamaged, but the lens obviously needed fixing and also the front end got bent and so I brought it to a Manhattan shop and they did a so-so job. Months later I noticed that the zoom ring got rather tight among developing other problems so I brought it to the Canon Factory Repair in New Jersey. They fixed that and also changed the frontmost metal ring where you screw on the filter, the part the got bent and was straightened out at the Manhattan repair shop. Canon returned it to me four days later almost in mint condition and I was overjoyed because I love that lens and the $105 that I paid for the job was well worth it. Now that's a lengthy backgrounder to my suggestion for you to bring it only to the certified official Canon repair facility. I would have saved some $70 if I brought it to the Canon shop in the first place. Your lens obviously needs looking into at least; if there's that screeching sound when I zoom my own lens it would bother me and I'd get it checked. My guess is that the special grease or something on the gears or capstans that make them turn smoothly might have been depleted, or maybe there's a loose part in there that causes friction. Good luck. Sun, 31 Dec 2006 05:07:26 +0000 http://www.lightstalkers.org/canon_24_70_2_8l_problem_and_question#52691 Re: Canon 24-70 2.8L problem and question Sorry about the delay, Max. Thank you for your advice. Finally I returned it, I was about to buy it but I changed my mind. I will wait for a replacement and it should arrive in 15 days more or less. You've been very kind, thank you again. Take care, Diego.
