workshop

I've just stumbled across the toscana photographic workshop.
http://www.tpw.it/2007/greene/greene_set.htm
Anyone know anything?I was curious about the stanley greene workshop.
It would be quite a big chunk of change for me.(about1.5k euro) so I'm a bit hesitant,as much as I like his photos.
In general, has a workshop been really important&useful?
obviously there are many out there, prices, duration, aims all vary greatly.
So, reccomendable?Or can much of the material be gleaned from other resources, such as books,'net, practice?& the resources used for kit, travel, personal work.
