help with photo mechanic

i was using PM to view images and jumping back and forth into Photoshop for editing. It was working spendidly. After several hours of working out of my default 'intake' folder - listed in the 'favorites' bar of PM - i decided to move all of the images to a different folder. i performed a 'select all' within my default folder and dragged the selection onto the new destination folder. When the transfer - not copy, unfortunately - was finished, some 700 photos had gone missing. out of a total of 1300 jpegs.

i have searched for them everywhere, using today's date, even specific file numbers, file type etc but the only sign of them are the cached thumbnails - small and large - in my library. no sign of the originals anywhere on my powerbook g4. i'm running OSX 10.3.9.

If anyone has ANY suggestions on how to recover or find these images I would appreciate it.

This might sound daft but from experience I'd suggest you check the trash.
Good luck.
Also, check all your libraries keeping an eye out for subfolders that might have them.
I've found that PM has a really annoying lag when moving large numbers of files. I've never found it to delete files - generally what happens is I move them to an unintended folder due to the lag...

If you haven't found them, send Dennis Walker the developer of the program an email support@camerabits.com

Problem could come if during a long move you assume the program is stalled and then restart or force quit... :)

Re: help with photo mechanic

I'm not at all suggesting that this is the situation in your case, but purely to forewarn others who might encounter a similar problem... there is a documented situation / deliberate security-bug when using Photo Mechanic registered with a pirated serial number - In this case when you use either the Ingest or Copy or Move files functions, everything appears to happen properly, but not all images are transferred, and the application reports no errors.
Re: help with photo mechanic

Thanks to all for replying. Turns out my problem was really my problem. I was using an unregistered copy of the program, and it has a built in flaw or bug to discourage such practices. On transfering images from one file to another it randomly deletes some - permanently. Can't say that I applaud the makers of PM for setting up such a destructive mechanism, but am I not in a position to argue. Alas.
