Re: Election in Afghanistan.

for visas, there's a consulate in nyc, maybe one in DC as well.ariana airlines (the afghan national carrier) flies 4 times a week from UAE also from delhi, istanbul, and I think frankfurt. A new carrier, swiss skies is flying from paris (see Zalmai's post). PIA flies to kabul from islamabad and peshawar I think, but check on that. I think there's another airline flying from dubai...com air,I think.
It's about $1200 from paris RT, $300 RT from UAE. so depends on if it's cheaper to get from chicago to paris or dubai/UAE, I suppose.

Zalmai is in and out of afghanistan, Patrick Andrade is there now, both have their email addresses on their profiles.

lemme know if you find anything new.

this is ariana's flight schedules and fares, but check that the routes are all active. looks like new york - istanbul - kabul might be the best bet (from nyc anyway).

Re: Election in Afghanistan.

hi all, for all thinking about heading for K-town for elections,
here's the latest from my travel agent Ajay (212 213 1313,212 249 2269)

$1347 new york to kabul, taxes included. (nyc-dubai non-stop on malaysian airlines, then ariana or comair non-stop to kabul)
there's a 20 hour layover in dubai, which is not a cheap place to hang out, but always a curious dose of oil money decadence in between america and afghanistan. ajay has a line on a 4 star hotel near the airport for $100, which is not bad for dubai.

that route seems slightly cheaper than ny- istanbul-kabul.
there are also more flights from dubai to kabul than from istanbul, and no visas required for US citizens in dubai vs. $100 visas for turkey. if you want to go via turkey however, it's 535 euros/650USD RT istanbul-kabul.
