Armenia, fixer/translator ?

I was wondering if anyone has been to Armenia (or is there) and can recommend a fixer/translator in Yerevan. Also, any recommendations of good hotels?
Any info is appreciated, thank you!

There is a hostel that is clean, really clean, and pretty cheap, also central to the downtown area (called Envoy Hostel). One of the workers there is a local journalist, she might be able to suggest someone for a fixer. I did my work in Nagorno Karabakh, so I don't know anyone in Yerevan.

The local university should be able to hook you up with an English speaker if you just want a translator. Good luck. It's a neat country and don't forget to check out the cameras for sale at the Vernissage market.

You didn't say when you would be aiming to come. It's about to hit the real main season for tourisms (especially Diaspora) coming over, especially with the Pan Armenian Games to start 18-26 August. This means it's going to probably be hard to find hotel rooms at a reasonable price and it might be hard to find any at all during some periods.

Same is probably true for apartments -- the most affordable way to stay in Armenia -- but a lot is dependent on when you're due over. Tourist season should die down after Independence Day on 21 September and be pretty much over come October when accommodation should be easier to find and also cheaper. Most people tend to rent apartments, though. It's cheaper than the hotels.

BTW: Depending on what your interest is in Armenia, I can try to be of assistance. My main areas are poverty, conflict, democracy, culture, national minorities (especially Yezidis/ Kurds) etc since moving here from England in 1998. Can help you sort out a translator, and I’m also ready to consider any fixing. Did some of that for New Internationalist in 2003 and also helped Tom de Waal with his book on Karabakh.

More info on my "Lightstalkers page":http://www.lightstalkers.org/oneworld. Drop me an email and we can discuss this further if you want.
