Have you thought about Tom Abrahamsson's Rapidwinder ? It's basically a Leicavit without the $$ and is built wonderfully. Perfect for left eyed shooters, also cheaper than a Motor M ;) Got one for my chrome 6 and it fits like a glove.

Re: Wanted: Motor-M

The older motors were/are an acquired taste. When the film advances something pushes the shutter release back up. It feels weird. I don't know if that's improved on the newer motors but be sure you try one first. I have an original Leicavit MP for my M2. It's heavy but fast as heck. I use to get off three frames a second with it. I never felt the extra weight was actually worth the trouble however.

Yeah the shutter pumping is fun at first, gets tiring fast and becomes a nuisance thereafter. the upside is you get a nice grip.

Fred--your assessment has always been my impression of the M motor.

Re: Wanted: Motor-M

I second Fred Lum: Get Tom Abrahamsson's Rapidwinder instead.
Tom, a former photojournalist, is one of the most capable and honest people in the business: Even if you bought a used Rapidwinder from someone else or long ago, Tom will service it, often times for free. I suggest you also get his soft shutter release - a tremenouds aid with slow shutter speeds. There are other brands; his is the best.

Tom also is a walking encyclopedia on all things Leica.

So, Paul-did you get a motor, winder, Leicavit or are you still wearing out your thumb?

Still cranking with the opposable digit, John. Haven't managed to track down a Motor in my price range. I thought about the Rapidwinder/Leicavit thing a while ago, but the things seem very complex. I've like to try one one of these days though. PHC.

Re: Wanted: Motor-M

I've been working with the Motor-M for a month or so now, and I must admit I'm becoming an addict! Combined with a "Soft-Release":http://www.rapidwinder.com it makes a perfectly balanced and functional unit, at least on the M7. Wouldn't like the idea of trying the same combo on an M6 or older M, without the shutter lock.

It actually brings out another advantage of the rangefinder system - you don't get that "slap in the face" feeling when the mirror on an SLR whangs around, and you can take constant pictures without losing sight of the subject through the viewfinder. Cheers, PHC.
