I don't think anyone does dye transfer anymore. I spoke to a printer who used to do a lot of these here but he too said he did not know of anyone who did it anymore. As far as I know - there might only be one person still doing it, and I don't think he/she is in NYC. I'm pretty sure it's the person that William Eggleston still uses, so you can maybe try contacting him. The owners, Guy Stricherz and Irene Malli, still print, and they produced a marvelous show and book, Americans In Kodachrome, a segment of which the Getty exhibited last year. http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9E0CE3D61530F934A1575AC0A964958260&sec=&spon=&pagewanted=print !http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51BWDGM3EJL._SS400_.jpg! http://www.amazon.com/Americans-Kodachrome-1945-1965-Guy-Stricherz/dp/1931885087 Sat, 10 Nov 2007 02:52:47 +0000 http://www.lightstalkers.org/dye-transfer-printing-in-ny-#100386 Re: Dye transfer printing in NY? Try this..nicely though, it seems to be a home phone.. Guy Stricherz Tel.: (206) 567-4433 G&I Sat, 10 Nov 2007 03:07:35 +0000 http://www.lightstalkers.org/dye-transfer-printing-in-ny-#100390 Re: Dye transfer printing in NY? but he may have run out of supplies... Guy Stricherz, who owns CVI Lab in Manhattan with his wife Irene Malli is making all 88 prints for the exhibition and book for Eggleston, a special event in itself given that Kodak stopped manufacturing the papers and chemicals necessary to produce dye transfers in 1992, when it was no longer cost-effective. Stricherz says he acquired a large stock of materials when the process was discontinued, but that he only has enough to last him the next 4-6 years. Hi Erica, did you call them to find out this info about stocks, etc? 4-6 years sounds very optimistic! and is this CVI Lab in Manhattan or WA? thanks you all Sat, 10 Nov 2007 09:04:36 +0000 http://www.lightstalkers.org/dye-transfer-printing-in-ny-#100412 Re: Dye transfer printing in NY? It (CVI) was in NYC, moved a couple of years ago to Washington, phone above. I didn't call..the quote about 4-6 years was written while it the lab was still in NYC, so I'd guess at least 2 years ago. maybe he has a couple of years of supplies left? Just ring him and see..he is the person who was doing Eggleston's work as well.
