I have had one since february, but most of the time it has been out of my hands and in Germany to be repaired. With my 50mm 1.4 it has heavy backfocus when I focus on a subject which is about 1.3 meter away at f:4. With my 28mm 2.0 it has a heavy backfocus when I focus on a subject which is about 4 meters away. In this case it focuses at about 6 meters which is 2 meters behind the subject. Whith my 35mm 2.0 it works all fine. After nine months Leica still haven't made it work. Just to let you know. Although I've only bought the M8 3 months ago, it has already taken a trip to the factory. Thought it would be fixed? Guess again. Sending it back in tomorrow. Although my unit has no focussing troubles, the electronics are a mess. Nice files though... Hadn't it been for the image quality, I would have sold by now. Very very disapointing, white balance sucks. Ah yeah, it does great shots at 160, in a sunny day, with little wind in the right direction and good temperature. Else in low light it sucks bad, the sf24 flash is a joke, and the M8's noise over 640 is just too bad. I'm missing my d200 which I sold last december because of no digital need. I'll go for D3 or similar I guess, and keep my M6/M7 as for the leicas. Before i worked with an M6 and M7 and i was happy to find a camera like a M8. Of course i don't compare it for the noise to a 5D, but in term of discretion and efficacity, i think i can buy another one ( or a M9) i will do it. Hope all your issues will be solved. I truly like the M8, really, even without the canon's "no noise" possibilities. No backfocus here. I work with the camera daily. Newspaper stuff no less. All my colleagues think I've gone bonkers. As for flash, I use a nikon SB800 on manual. Works OK. Just a shame my camera suffers from well known defects.I hope that the elves at the leica factory will sort them out this time... As for the 40mm nokton, I have one too. Its focus is spot on wide open at closest focusing distance. But noticable focus shift from then on. I gave up on that lens. I've been working with rangefinders for a long time, and love them. That, and only that is the reason I haven't given up on that camera. I know that there will always be a tiny backfocus problem. Not only with Leica, but also with SLR's and DSLR's. There is a physical explanation for that. In my case though, my M8 together with my brand new 28mm 2.0 or my 50mm 1.4 is completely unusable. Everything is focussed quite far behind and Leica apparently don't know what to do about it. Anyway.. This post was merely ment as a warning. From now on I will never buy a new lens without testing it on my camera first. (Hopefully my problems will be over soon though. Two days ago I picked up my camera from it's latest trip to the factory. Before leaving the store I insisted on checking it out. I don't know what happened in Germany, but both my 50mm and my M8 was completely smashed up. The shutter was totally broken (very visible), and the focusring on the lens couldn't move. It seems as they have dropped it on the floor and then sent it back. So.. I'll get a new one and hopefully one that works).
