Odd Red-eye

Has anyone come across someone having different colour eyes when subjected to flash photography please? A flash photo I took over the weekend gave this guy one red eye and one yellow eye, even though the flash was built-in and he was looking straight at the camera. Could this be a medical condition??

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/45775364@N00/2083602788/" title="AM2J74 by elinchrom999, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2257/2083602788_2e928d1be8_o.jpg" width="300" height="305" alt="AM2J74" /></a>
Well, I remember reading somewhere about an eye condition that was discovered due to the person being photographed and the eye looking wierd on the photo. Don't think they were different colours though !
My photo shows one red eye and one yellow/green, but they are coloured contact lenses designed to help correct the colour blindness suffered by this photographer.
Back to your question-it's all to do with the angle of the light from the flash to the eye and back to the axis of the lens.
If the camera had a built in flash then red/yellow/whatever eye is going to be much more likely than with off camera flash.
Er, hope all the above helps !!

PS-I probably need to use my reading glasses more often-a quick skip read of the posts and I mis-read yours as 'Old red eye'. Thought you were talking about whisky !!

That's interesting, because the other eye on mine is a yellowy / gold colour. I am going to contact him later this evening to see if he does have contact lenses or is aware of any problems....

I too remeber reading about a medical problem somewhere, and seem to remeber that in that case, it was a dislodged retina. Won't tell the client that though obviously !!

Er-perhaps you are Michael !!!
If you are red/green colour blind then you would see red as brown most probably. Depends on the % of your colour blindness what shade you would see. I can assure you that the contact lenses covering his iris's were red and yellow.
Maybe he needs to check the colour balance on the digi-hasselblad I borrowed to shoot this on !
Try http://www.toledo-bend.com/colorblind/Ishihara.html to find out if you are colour blind.

Er, well-if it's any consolation Michael, I discovered I am too at a BBC interview several years ago.
I'm 30% red/green and have been known to buy deep-burgundy coloured shoes thinking they were
dark brown! Now I'm aware of the problem it's ok though and doesn't affect my work,(well not as far
as I know !!).
Back in the good old days of mono images the only problem was buying clothes for those smarter
assignments-hehe.
Best wishes,
JR.
