I have a Tokina 28-70mm f/2.6-2.8 Pro AT-X. I've shot with it for a few years, but I've treated it like a baby. The glass is spotless. It shoots awesome, too. Plus it would save you a lot since it's not Nikkor. Let me know.

I've just bought a Tokina 28 -70 2.8 Pro AT-X for my D100 and it's the mutts nutts. So inexpensive for what you get and so solid, sharp and contrasty. I've hired the Nikkor version many times and this Tokina is as good for a fraction of the price. I chose Tokina 'cause I know how good they are and because I have two children. I don't need Nikon zooms when Tokina does as good a job. Really! Go get one. You'll not be sorry.
