Unscheduled downtime earlier

Hi everyone -- sorry if you saw some unexpected errors between 12 and 1pm EST today. We just installed a new load balancer and ran into a hiccup in the log configuration. It's all patched up and everything should be better than normal now.

Thanks,

Shinji

I have been trying to log on for several days now and have had many problems.

When I log in and hit the home button it takes me to the home page but as logged out. I finally managed to view the current home page as logged in by using the view all link. If I hit the home link from any page it takes me to logged out home page.
I refreshed my cache thinking it may sort the problem but the home link still redirects me to logged out. Just thought you should know.

No There are still problems. Still redirected to logged out home page and when I hit a particular discussion you do not see the most recent reply. You have to refresh the page and it appears. Anyway just off to one of the most picturesque parts of S.E England....Canvey Island. Not! Hopefully all back to normal tomorrow.

Shinji,

I know we talked about this a while back, but do you still require servers located in various geographic locations? I have a box in the UK which could help serve the European load

Hi guys, sorry for the issues. We had a badly-timed power outage today, and still working on the proxy logging issue that's caused intermittent errors yesterday and today. I'll have time to write more once we've got this sorted -- thanks for your patience...

Re: Unscheduled downtime earlier

No problem, thanks for bearing with us on this. These errors can be a bit cryptic and discouraging, I know.

We're now getting back on top of everything; we're now deploying to a partition with lots of space, DNS is fully up-to-date, and the database's power supply is fixed.

We do still have a problem with the deployment routine; when we deploy new code (ie, bug fixes) and restart the servers, they aren't bouncing back as quickly as they should, resulting in about 3 minutes of downtime. I'm hoping we'll have this eliminated shortly and be completely back to normal.

If anyone wants to report anything else specific, you can always send a note to support@lightstalkers.org. We do respond to all email. Thanks again,

You didn't respond to my stupid email, nor did I expect you to, when simply informing you of problems.

Re: Unscheduled downtime earlier

I emailed this to Shinji earlier, but I'm wondering if anyone else is having the same problem.

Basically, if i try and access the site normally, by going to www.lightstalkers.org I arrive at a page saying the system is down for maintenance.

However, I can still get in via the back door, as it were, by going to a bookmarked thread or any other LS page. Once there everything works fine except the home page.
