Burns Fellowship Program Application Deadline: March 7 American print and broadcast journalists have until March 1 to apply for a two-month professional exchange program in Germany. Successful applicants will spend August and September living, working and reporting for their home and host news organizations from across the Atlantic. The Arthur F. Burns Fellowship Program grants ten U.S. and ten German journalists a $5,000 living stipend while they are abroad, along with airfare and lodging in Washington, D.C. for a one-week orientation session in July. U.S. participants will also be reimbursed up to $500 in German-language courses. The last week of July, the 20 chosen reporters will meet in Washington, D.C. for a one-week orientation program. Then, the U.S. journalists will travel to Germany, where they will work part-time for a German newspaper, magazine, radio station or television station from August 1 to September 30. At the same time, the ten German participants scatter across the United States to work in media outlets throughout the country. The program is jointly administered by the International Center for Journalists in Washington, D.C. and the Internationale Journalisten-Programme (IJP) in Konigstein, Germany.
