[Lightstalkers] FM2 shutter hangs at 1/60 http://www.lightstalkers.org/fm2-shutter-hangs-at-1-60 An entire Lightstalkers thread via RSS/XML. en-us FM2 shutter hangs at 1/60 Anybody else have a problem with an FM2 shutter sticking open when shot at 1/60? I've had a few of these bodies before, and this is the first to do this. Curiously, several quick smacks on a table didn't fix it, but turning the shutter dial quickly does cause the shutter to close. Any thoughts? FYI the camera works fine at other speeds, so I still use it, of course. Back in the day my shutter used to freeze like that because the mechanism used to get confused. Not sure if it happened only at 1/60 though. If it's happening without the drive the shutter needs to be repaired or replaced which will probably cost more than the camera is worth especially if you take it to Nikon. You may of knocked it badly as the FM2 needs to be abused for something to go wrong. I have had several FM2's and have lost 2 of them through abuse or plain stupidy. One bounced of my bed as I sat down in a hotel room and another was samashed on the floor by a red eyed Palestinian gunmen during the infamous lyncing in Ramallah in 2000. And I don't think I've ever owned a camera I haven't dropped. Usually they either work fine afterward, or they're dead. Anyway, today was likely its last assignment (rendered redundant by digital). I just thought someone may have had an interesting fix, i.e. "Soak it in olive oil" or "Rub it with naugahyde" or somesuch. Have fun in BKK. Mine used to stick that way and I discovered that pounding out a small ding that was rubbing against the innards cleared the problem. Mine was sticking at all speeds, IIRC. After that, rub it with a freshly-cut potato. Wed, 27 Feb 2008 06:21:10 +0000 http://www.lightstalkers.org/fm2-shutter-hangs-at-1-60#114604
