guesthouse in Kabul?

I am heading to Kabul for two weeks early next month, I am a freelancer so cheap and good is what i am looking for. I also wouldn't mind LS'rs suggestions for fixers/drivers if you all have them.

David,

I stayed at ASSA 2 Guest House in the Shahr e naw neighborhood of Kabul just under a year ago. it was a little pricey at $50.00 per night for a single, but that included a very edible breakfast and dinner buffet, security (for what it is worth) and fairly reliable in room internet service. Good luck.

David

There is also the Mustapha. Not great but they have rooms for $20 if you push for it. Speak to Abdullah or Ibrahim.
There is wireless, a TV and DVD player in the reception area(which becomes a bit of a vocal point) a battered old 8 ball pool table and a bar of sorts.
If you decide to stay be careful with the gas heaters if there is one in the room. Some of them leak and dying of carbon monoxide poisoning in Kabul would be rather sad and pathetic.

Mark,
Thanks so much, I will contact both of them. I couldnt agree more about dying from Carbon Monoxide in Kabul. Of the many ways that may present themselves, thats not one that would read well in the papers back home.
Do you have a line on a fixer there too perhaps? rates etc?

Hi David

I didn't work in Kabul so had no fixer there. Try Jason Howe, He has worked with fixers in Kabul.

Good luck and stay vigilant.
