[Lightstalkers] photographer's agent http://www.lightstalkers.org/photographer-s-agent An entire Lightstalkers thread via RSS/XML. en-us photographer's agent Hi everybody, Can anybody help me - how to get a personal agent who works as a liaison. I've already chatted to you about this on facebook and pointed out the pitfalls of paying upfront for an agent who then sits on their bum and does nothing to find you work. An agent working on commission is much better. Anyone else out there on Lightstalkers worked with an agent? (No I'm not talking about the blokes with dark glasses who run after the President's car!!) Basically I did the research/calling/mailing work that she would have done for herself had she had the time, and I was able to speak on her behalf about her talent. But it seems like a costly way to go, she paid me hourly..quite an investment just to put out some feelers..I think people actually get saavy interns now to do some of that. But there must be still be some people who do this if you can afford it. I also worked in galleries..you can get exposure this way if they take you on as one of the photographers they represent, and the gallery will be doing a good bit to promote you and your work, but only in line with their own interests. I guess it depends on what kind of liaison you want. Alternatively, you certainly can pay someone who is top notch who knows the market inside and out, like "Mary Virginia Swanson":http://www.mvswanson.com/consulting/consulting.php#photog who is a consultant, not an agent, to put you on the right path for your work. She'll see where your strengths are, and give the appropriate guidance. Sun, 02 Mar 2008 15:40:21 +0000 http://www.lightstalkers.org/photographer-s-agent#114976
