Foto8.com has relaunched and i would love to hear your feedback. Lots of new ideas and ways to participate and all (tempting fate here) suggestions welcome. 2. Following the redesign of 8 Magazine and the new direction of Foto8 for this its 10th year anniversary I can announce that 8 Magazine will no longer be a non-paying magazine! To start we are seeing if we can sustain a £200 fee for published photo features in the magazine. It is not what we feel the work is worth (would pay more if we could) but its a start. Lightstalkers members called for it and we heard. ((btw there are over 200 pages and 15 stories in the next issue coming out at end of March!! :)) Thanks for your comments. Jon: As a long time admirer (and supporter of Foto8) and as (I hope) a temporary thorn-in-the-side for you during the Private thread about non-paying mags, I want to congratulate and thank you for the new changes. As always, Foto8 has been one of the beacons in the industry and, as a photographer, I can assure you that it has, for most of us, been an inspiration. I love the new site, love Véronique Besnard's essay (love the accompanying detail of her explanation/voice) and I am thrilled to see Vanessa's essay coming up in April. the fact that you are paying photographers now is a bold and I am happy to say honorable act. As I argued during that Private discussion, often times it's not the "amount" so much as the acknowledgment of the importance of payment. Congratulations again on the anniversary, the update and I look forward to buying foto8 again (not just browsing hungrily in the store)... great on you, Jon! Site looks great and it seems to work fine in China, too. Perhaps it'd be good to change the color of the "register" and "login" text on the buttons, though...shows up as pink to me, and makes it look like the button is grayed out and unusable. Again, great to hear that you're able to pay. Bob's right that it's a symbolic act that means a ton. Just got done with some negotiations on a piece with a music magazine; everything came to a halt when it came to light that they weren't planning on paying a dime. I brought up foto8 as one of the 3 magazines worth publication without compensation; that you're now able to pay even a token amount is a fantastic message to deadbeat publications unwilling to compensate contributors.
