If you are disturbed by the sanitary conditions in your town or city or detest lack of cleanliness in your locality, you now have an opportunity to make a difference. As a photo-journalist working in either the English or the regional language media, here is an invitation to take part in a photo-contest on themes relating to sanitation and ensure that you are not just seen but also heard and acted upon. To commemorate the ``International Year of Sanitation ñ 2008íí, WES-Net India, the largest network of professionals and agencies working in the area of water and sanitation in India, and some of its constituent member organizations, UNICEF, Water Aid and Plan India aim to promote mass awareness and also raise the profile of sanitation among the general public, professionals and policy makers through the mainstream media by involving photographers in the Clean-India contest. Established in the year 2004, the Water and Environmental Sanitation Network India (WES-Net India) aims to promote knowledge sharing and co-ordination across the sector to improve provision of management of water and sanitation facilities. To be eligible to take part in the contest, all a photographer is required to do is to publish photographs along with captions relating to below given sanitation themes in the newspapers and magazines during a period of one week, starting from the world water day which will be observed on 20th March this year, (i.e. 20th ñ 27th March 2008). - Sanitary Facilities (Rural/urban) - Sewerage Systems - Hygiene Behavior - River Pollution Issues - Solid Waste Disposal - Wastewater Management Published copies of the same along with the original print could be sent to the organizers by April 15 as nominations to the award. There is no entry fee for sending nominations to the contest. Details of Awards First Prize - Rs. 50,000 Second Prize - Rs. 25,000 Third Prize - Rs. 15,000 2 Prizes for each theme worth of Rs. 5,000 All the participants would be provided with a certificate of participation. The contest is also open to any child journalist in any part of the country with a zeal and passion to make a difference. Organizations and individuals working with children can encourage child journalists to take part in the competition. There will be a special award for child journalists whose photographs get selected for the exhibition. The awards will be given away at a national level event to be held in New Delhi by leading dignitaries of Government and International Agencies in the month of June.. Selected entries would be displayed in a photo exhibition proposed to be organized along side the award function as well as in the photo book on sanitation to be published. Criteria for the Sanitation Photo Awards The published photographs will be judged based on the following criteria;  Highlights an important/neglected issue  Creates mass awareness among public and others  Promotes best practices.
