I have booked my flight but was not sure if it starts on the Wednesday 3rd Sept or Thursday 4th. Main reason is I don't want to miss the after party which I think is on the first Saturday in Sept. Last years was great. When I was there year before last, I was told that nothing happened the first couple of days during that week. However, one of the best events I went to was on the first afternoon...a reception at the Hotel Pams for the photographers whose work was being showcased. It was a great chance to meet them face to face and talk a bit, something that would not take place later in the week. I had to leave early and missed the final blow-out which was said to be great that year. And, yes, that year -- as I think in all others -- it was Saturday night. The 'International Press Center' in the Palais des Congrès is mostly empty until Thursday. So go ahead and go there earlier if you want to have a nice quiet time in lovely Perpignan, but don't expect to make much professional progress in the networking/selfpromotion area before those three major days. It's also about meeting up with old friends, having a beer or 5, chilling out, eating well etc. Last year I was bemused by the aggresive attitude on display by some of the photographers during the formal/informal portfolio viewings.
