[Lightstalkers] Pricing for image use in product packaging http://www.lightstalkers.org/pricing-for-image-use-in-product-packaging An entire Lightstalkers thread via RSS/XML. en-us Pricing for image use in product packaging At the risk of asking a "how long is a piece of string", for the first time ever I've been asked if I'll license an image for use on a food product label. The product will be distributed in small supermarkets in a couple of counties in Ireland, so it's not *huge*, but definitely considerable. The client isn't even sure if the product will launch yet, so can't give me figures on scale. Now, I know how to prices images for magazines etc. But how does one price for something like this? I'm guessing it's similiar - €XXX for one year of the product etc. Any advice welcome... By the way, I saw your Photojournale article on World Cities (http://photojournale.bladepicturecompany.com/categories.php?cat_id=53&page=4. Very nice work. I have a project ready to submit (http://skippysanchez.blogspot.com/2008/03/ill-take-train.html) when John tells me it's time to upload. It will be my second on the site: (http://photojournale.bladepicturecompany.com/categories.php?cat_id=63) I like the site, although I have never been able to figure out it's purpose beyond showcasing work. Have you gotten any jobs, contacts or sales from Photojournale? I got a call from the potential client today - he first of all said that this product might never get off the ground, so so licensing the image for a span of time product run wasn't relevant. He then told me that it might be runs of 300,000 but that he wanted to buy the rights to the image, but wouldn't mind if I used it elsewhere. The thing is, he wanted to do this for the same price (which wasn't terribly high) - to use the image indefinitely, potentially on all products. I said that I wasn't willing to enter into an open-ended deal for that kind of money. He told me that other photographers that he was dealing *were* and that he could "just go online and get any old image" much cheaper than me. Let's just say we didn't do business... For what it's worth Fotoquote state's that for a food/beverage label for a run up to 500,000 units, a range from $1600 to $3200 would be in the ballpark. If it were to used for the label & the box the median price would be $3700 Tue, 20 May 2008 21:49:04 +0000 http://www.lightstalkers.org/pricing-for-image-use-in-product-packaging#121840 Re: Pricing for image use in product packaging “just go online and get any old image” niiiiice Tue, 20 May 2008 22:10:55 +0000 http://www.lightstalkers.org/pricing-for-image-use-in-product-packaging#121842
