Coming out of it I was convinced to move more and more of my work to video. The instructors gave a few recommendations on HD cameras both miniDV-based (like the Canon XHA1) and (Canon HF10). I've been keen to buy the Sony HVR-A1. But its getting "old" and only one chip. That's a bad thing in low light. On the other hand, I was looking at flash memory-based cameras (like the HF10) and they for the most part look impressive. And they're only one chip. I intend to use whatever camera I get mainly for editorial work. So I'm curious what others are using. Is anyone using the big pieces of kit like the XHA1 or the smaller prosumer cams like the HF10? I'd like something with an optical viewfinder, manual focus and, if not an XLR jack, an RCA mic jack. My price range is anything under US$3,000. Cheers, Bill. Unfortunately it isn't the be all to end all, its just a first inevitable step toward hybrid cameras. The biggest drawback is the lack of a mic-jack. The sole mic is small mono mic located just below the on-camera flash. I've heard the engineers at Nikon have been "dinged" on that though. So it looks like, for now, I'll keep researching -- and talking about here -- dedicated HD cameras. The SR11 doesn't look all that bad. Cheers, Bill.
