Getting to Baghdad via Kurdistan

Anyone go to Baghdad via Kurdistan lately? I'm having a hell of a time getting an Iraqi visa from Damascus. I know that people used to get to Baghdad by getting their stamp in Kurdistan in the old days, but I haven't found anyone who has done it in years.

I know that they still give you a ten day visa once you arrive at the border from Turkey or at the Irbil airport, but I'm not sure if the visa will fly all over Iraq.

Anyone know?

Shane I'm not sure I have the answer but I did go in via Turkey under the KRG and out of the Iraqi controlled border with Syria in the north, without much trouble, they did all want to know if I had been south but I dont see how they would know if I had, it would be a long drive and a lot of checkpoints.
Good luck

I was in Kurdistan in August and the border officials told me then that I could technically go to Baghdad but that I would need to get the 10 day visa extended as one would probably be staying longer then. They of course begged me not to go to Baghdad and I didn't. I did get accosted by the local constabulary in Akre and he held me up for 2 hours checking out my bona fides. Lots and lots of checkpoints, I do wonder what the police would actually do as you crossed them heading south bound for Baghdad.

Sitthixay,

Did you do the 10 day extension? Is it easy to do in Erbil?

I didn't get the extension, no, but the official seemed to think it would be straightforward enough.
