I'm having a hell of a time getting an Iraqi visa from Damascus. I know that people used to get to Baghdad by getting their stamp in Kurdistan in the old days, but I haven't found anyone who has done it in years. I know that they still give you a ten day visa once you arrive at the border from Turkey or at the Irbil airport, but I'm not sure if the visa will fly all over Iraq. Anyone know? They of course begged me not to go to Baghdad and I didn't. I did get accosted by the local constabulary in Akre and he held me up for 2 hours checking out my bona fides. Lots and lots of checkpoints, I do wonder what the police would actually do as you crossed them heading south bound for Baghdad.
