OSI grant

cleaning out the inbox, this came in a few weeks ago:

The Documentary Photography Project of the Open Society Institute is pleased to announce that it will award grants to photographers to assist them in presenting a finished body of work to the public through exhibition, books, online publishing, or other mechanisms.

OSI has a long history of supporting documentary photographers, most notably through the photography exhibition Moving Walls, who are exploring human rights and social justice issues. OSI hopes that the distribution grants, in particular those projects that unite the body of work with the subjects or subject matter, will enable a broad audience to discuss issues of social justice and human rights and to consider whether documentary photography can be used as a tool to effect social change.

Applications are due March 25, 2005; the Documentary Photography Project will review the proposals and announce the award recipients in April 2005. For complete details, see the attached guidelines and application. More information about OSI*s Documentary Photography Project can be found at www.soros.org/initiatives/photography.
