sorry to hijack this but i have a mostly related question (could get even more related to this 30mm piece if the cards fall that way...) regarding the xpan vs. the 6x17 predicament. i'm kind of stuck on this right now and wonder about the following: are the bootleg 6x17 bodies any good? anyone worked with any of these? glenn, do you have any images shot with the 30mm? perhaps in tight surroundings? (this was the one thing i really like about a swing lens panorama...) anyhow, any thoughts about the xpan vs 6x17 predicament would be appreciated, especially regarding any cheaper versions of the xpan etc. best, e.

Re: XPan 30mm Lens For sale

the x pan is great for a a small portable camera much better than the russian swing cameras ( one whioch I threw in the Ganges yerars ago) That said the Linhof and Fuji 6x17 are amazing cameras I use the fixed lens versions which I feel are more durable. As far as the others the noblex is nice but cumebersome Hard to handhold for sure. The Linhiof 6x12 is beautiful as well 2x1 rather than the 6x17 almost 3x1 but is a beautiful machine. The only camera I love more and have'nt been able to afford yet are the Ebony especially the 6x17 inch camera but these again not really made for handholding. If your purpose is journalism hard to beat the x pan . Both the Fuji and Linhof have great results and can be used for PJ BUT at 4 frames per roll it is difficult to shoot ( also 8 frames for 220) But you will need to be fast and bring a lot of film . I personally use both the Xpan and the 6x17
as it gives me the ability to cover and then select specials for the 6x17 Hope this helps
