http://www.lightstalkers.org/posts/share-your-stories-of-getting-dirty An entire Lightstalkers thread via RSS/XML. en-us watch out for mud! im out in the bush here in Australia doing some work on the droughts effect on farmers as well as a gold mine in the area... i was in a dried up damn and walking down as i reached the core (still cracked) so i thought it was hard, although a moment later i was up to my chest in thick sucking mud, i lost a shoe and had to chuck camera and stuff up onto dry land as i slowly pulled myself out, took me a good 5 minutes to get out,, body is fine and im still using it, lens still a bit dirty, seems to have a bit of grit in the joins, anyway some photos are attached and i thought this would be a good thread for some giggles amongst the community here, cheers Conor Sat, 18 Apr 2009 10:10:30 +0000 http://www.lightstalkers.org/posts/share-your-stories-of-getting-dirty p.s. guys how do i post some photos up? As for getting dirty... I was covering a foxhunting meet for The Telegraph. Against my better judgement, and as it was the only way to get photos, I perched on the front of a quadbike driven by one of the hunt followers. I was getting some great shots until a riderless-horse smacked straight into the quadbike and I described a perfect somersault through the air. The landing was soft though, fortunately for me-right into a very large and manure filled stinky puddle. End result-bruised photographer, bashed up camera, very muddy lens and a decision never to go on a quadbike ever again. After a quick clean up of the cameras I carried on-and made the front page with one of the photos. But I did resemble one of those Papua New Guinea mud men for a while. When I got back home, I learned the hard way that crude oil will dissolve some plastics such as the coating on my reflectors and the housings of flashes.
