I'm in Photoshop, and I click to drag a text layer. Photoshop, in its infinite wisdom, seems to think I want to drag the layer underneath the text... the only way I can get it to work is if I verrryy careffullly click on an actual letter of the text. I have a dim recollection that this is a 'feature'; that I can tell it *not* to click 'through' layers like this. Am I right? If so, can anyone tell me how to change this setting? Wed, 12 Mar 2008 12:53:41 +0000 http://www.lightstalkers.org/posts/photoshop-how-do-i-stop-clicking-through-layers are u like option clicking or something? photoshop should stay on the layer that you have selected (the layer you're on) unless you're option clicking to try to select a different layer. the other neat trick is that if you right click on layers it'll give you a little pull down so you can select a layer by name rather than by guessing. though if you're just click clicking then i dunno what's going on. When you're done, unlock. A pain, I know, but that's the way I handle it. One of the main uses I learned for Imageready involves the slicing tool. For a beginner , it's useful for putting a picture on a web page that has various clickable sections to it. it's useful for making a single image with numerous sections which can be made into clickable links. You take an image, and slice square/rectangular sections of it. Then, you can save all these parts of your whole image (quickly and efficiently), along with an html page if you so choose. When you open the HTML page it opens with your (sliced) images placed in it -- the image looks whole to the viewer. Then, you can edit the HTML of the page to turn certain slices into hot links. But this is coming from someone who only has worked with a version of this program which is close to 5 years old. Maybe the newer versions are much cooler. And maybe these functions are built in to the more recent versions of Photoshop. Yes, the "slicing" tool is built-in to Photoshop CS, and I agree, it's quite useful. I think I like the way Imageready handles shapes; I have to admit, the "tab" shape is damn handy. In general, though, I don't quite get why they had to make two separate apps -- especially since they always seem to be bundled? One for the ages I guess. If it is the layer that you are currently using should remain active regardless of where you click in the image. I can either select the layer I want to work on in the layers palate, or select the "auto layers button" in the options toolbar to let photoshop automatically select the layer for me. 99% of the time the auto layers button works well. If the layer is 'behind' another one, this doesn't work so well though. Hope this helps.
