Call for Entries: 2010 Festival for Young Photojournalism

I haven't gotten past the first scan on this festival but it looks to be a right good setup:

DETAILS
http://www.fotofestival-hannover.de/bewerbung.html?&L=1

We again invite young photojournalists to the 2nd Lumix Festival for Young Photojournalism which will take place from 16 to 20 June 2010 in Hannover, Germany to compete for one of the 60 exhibitions and the FreeLens Award endowed with 10,000 Euro.

Applicants can be young photojournalists, students of photography and trainees and mustn't be older than 35 when sending in their reportage for the competition. In contrast to the last festival, applications can only come from the applicants themselves this time.
Only reportages, essays and series with journalistic character can be handed in. Applications are accepted from 1 December 2009 until 28 February 2010, application forms will be activated during this period. A team of curators of the organizers - from the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Hannover and the photojournalist's organisation FreeLens - will then choose the 60 works to be exhibited from the total of all works handed in.
All selected works then have to be uploaded as files to the ftp server of the festival office. From these files, the exhibition prints will be printed in Hannover in first class gallery quality. The prints will be destroyed after the festival.

An international jury chooses the winner of the FreeLens Award out of the 60 exhibited reportages. The award ceremony will be part of the final festival party on Saturday, 19 June 2010.
application forms

You can apply for the Freelens Award from now on until 28 February 2010.

Re: Call for Entries: 2010 Festival for Young Photojournalism

"He looked so immaculately frightful
As he bummed a cigarette
Then he went off sniffing drainpipes
And reciting the alphabet
Now you would not think to look at him
But he was famous long ago"

Bob Dylan, "Desolation Row," 1965

There should be a contest for washed up, has-been photographers aged 35-55 who once were "flavor of the month" and then fell from grace.

Only bad, embarrassing to look at and talk about photographs will be considered, and the jury of smug, wealthy peers will meet in awkward silence and uncomfortable tension.

The grand prize will be more alcohol to drown misery. Applications will be accepted from here to eternity.

"The prints will be destroyed after the festival."

Joke?
Hilarious.

Not a joke?
Why wouldn't they donate prints to the nearest whatever institution? Something... destroy is the only option?

Velibor,

I would guess that this is so the value of the work on the fine art market will not be degraded.

Age discrimination here......grumble, grumble.....one can define "emerging photographers" in a way that would eliminate that...

Alan, I'll make you your own award, for Best Smuggling Of a Photo From 2001 In The New Yorker Ten Great Photos of 2009 and another for Best "Fine" Photojournalist Not Just Delivering The News.

Plus, I'll buy you all the whiskey you need to accompany such prestige, but you gotta come to Oakland to collect.

thank you Erin, it's the New Yorker's Best Photos From Photo Exhibitions in New York, 2009 -- if you look, some of the other images are from the Fifties, Sixties and one from 1858 -- so compared to them, 2001 was just yesterday!

but I will take you up on your offer of whiskey any day of the week, and reciprocate in kind :)

Master Chin,

I'd be sure to take a whisky and 2 awards and a spot in the New Yorker over a torn up print any day ;) you do have it made!

The idea of young photojournalism is in itself really more than little funny. Shouldn't they really be exhibiting video? I jest, I jest...

Cheers
