Great idea... should go out and buy a starter gun. Not too sure I'd want my Glock in my luggage on some trips!

Re: Using a gun to safely check camera gear at airport

Bear in mind that possession of guns -- long guns, handguns, whatever -- in many countries is a crime. I don't know about starter guns, but my suspicion is that law enforcement officers in such countries aren't going to accept fine distinctions about whether it is a weapon or not. So as clever as this might seem on the surface, it could be a really troublesome thing in the end. Even if you convinced those foreign law enforcement people the starter gun was harmless, in the mean time they probably would also take possession of your kit and its "integrity" might be lost, so to speak.

If it sounds too good to be true, etc. My main client would probably not appreciate my carrying a firearm when I travel for them. That said, I believe this is recommended for the 50 states only.
The real problem are the airlines. They don't want you to carry-on much stuff. Therefore you need to check luggage. But that costs money. Then it might get stolen since we can't use real locks on the old Pelican case. It's just gotten silly. Silly.

It's a great idea, but not sure how well this works abroad?

I wouldn't try it! Doesn't mater where heading. More likely I'd use a framed picture of some SEAL troopers.

The assertion that it's "extra tracked" is dubious to me. I believe it is scanned at the counter, and all of the other standard points along the way as is the case with all other luggage. Nothing more, nothing less. The only difference I see is that this allows you to lock your luggage with non TSA locks, at airports where you normally wouldn't be able to (without the risk of them being cut anyways).

I've known several people who have had their firearms lost/pilfered from their check in luggage.
