Fellow Lightstalkers....need advice as to how to create my own website? Willing to look into web design apps and do most of da work. but have never done before. something simple where I can put up a decent photo gallery. Thanks! Adam

Get a hold of Dreamweaver for mac or PC. It makes setting up a web site fairly simple. If you have Photoshop (which I am assuming) you can also use Imageready to easily make PSD files into HTML tables + graphics. With both of these programs, and a decent book, you could do it in a weekend. -matt

If you have a Mac, use RapidWeaver. Fast, neat. I use it to build portfolio sites.

bobby - i like your site! very clean lines, not dissimilar to my own which i am trying to improve upon. is slide show pro a stand-alone program or do you have to use it in conjunction with some other flash program? also, what timing do you use for your slide shows? i have a fairly fast cable connection and i'm getting 10-12 seconds between images.

you might want to try iWeb, assuming you use a mac, and embed Soundslides or another slideshow program like Simpleviewer into the html. not too tricky for the computer savvy. i used Soundslides, check it out: www.davidlroot.com. good luck, dave

My sites were designed using Slide Show Pro through Flash. They also have a plug in for LightRoom. All versions are $25 and the Director programme to manage it is $25. It is a really huge programme and allows for amazing amount of customizing. My site has a 5 second transition.

You can set up a blog with blogger, movabletype or wordpress with very little effort. A huge advantage is that you won't have to learn any code, or struggle with learning web site development. I just set up a photo blog with wordpress and posting there is as easy as writing an email.

i use vi ( http://www.uic.edu/depts/accc/software/unixgeneral/vi101.html ) to do my site, i also use sounds slides ( http://www.soundslides.com/) and simple viewer ( http://www.airtightinteractive.com/simpleviewer/ ) simple viewer example: http://gnook.org/messengers/ , what i really like is that it automatically resizes the images for screen size. photoshop and photomechanic can automatically build simpleviewer sites. my favourite part of my site is that its free, $0 on extra software (though i am planning on spending the $40 for SS) and $0 on monthly fees (i know the guy that hosts it) but it would only be $5/month if i didn't. and i get all those bells and whistles, i can even embed video. its a photography site right? its about the photos, not the website. the smaller, less obtrusive the site is the faster the photos load and the more space there is for them. i guess i should mention that i took most of my site down recently, but it was mostly like it is now just more links and more SV galleries. ps. the messenger thing is a work in progress not for public viewing so don't complain about the photos being repetitious.

Stupid, You are able to add additional storage space to pro (not edu) sites if need really be. I'm sure that liveBooks would be willing to work with you if your stupid site requires more than 3GB of storage. In most cases, this amount of space has proven to be more than adequate.

Ya, sorry, but anything that Livebooks can do, Slide Show Pro can do too....... for $50. So what, you spend $100 a year on a hosting package and maybe $200 for someone to set it up for you. I count $350 compared to $$$$$ from Livebooks,; and I'm also getting tired of seeing Livebooks sites just like as an art director seeing 11x14 leather portfolios with embossed names coming in. Sure they satisfy the requirement but they show no creativity in their final execution. It might be a minor point but its still a point.
