Every year, a EUR 50,000 grant is awarded to fund a photo-reportage carried out over a period of several months on a specific, topical subject. The Foundation promotes the award via an exhibition and the publication of a monograph. It also purchases four of the photographs included in the report. True to its humanist approach, the Carmignac Gestion Foundation wishes to use this award to give these key witnesses of today’s world the means to go where others will not, and to continue visiting zones that are largely ignored by the mainstream media outside periods of conflict. As focal points for extreme tensions, the selected zones are the scene of intense human suffering, or indeed the epicentre of grievous violence with worldwide repercussions. For this very reason, the topic proposed for the 2011 Carmignac Gestion Photojournalism Award is: Zimbabwe The panel of judges will meet on 4 November 2011 to select the winner, who will have to submit his or her photo-reportage by 31 March 2012 at the latest. Carmignac appears to stress the point that the door is open to newcomers, which is commendable. So one show apply. The discussion in the last jury was really very open and in the end with Massimo Berruti also a young photographer won.
