Greetings Jake, let me ask around on the official journalist union here in Havana to see how you can do that. I hope to have a proper answer by Friday.

Cheers mate.

You have to apply to the Cuban Interests section in Washington for a journalist visa...

What Damaso said. And before you bother applying, make sure you have a letter of assignment from a reputable publication or wire service, a passport valid six months before and after your expected travel dates and a rough itinerary for the trip.

Hello Jake,

As Damaso said, you need to contact the Cuban Interests Section in Washington (thank you Damaso, always there with a helpful advise!)

For additional information you may contact Raúl González Hernández, the person responsible for the US and Puerto Rico at the “Centro de Prensa Internacional“ (the agency dependent of the Ministry of International Relations – MinRex – in charge of relations with the international press).

His e-mail is raul@cpi.minrex.gov.cu

As Will has advised, make sure you have a letter of assignment from a reputable publication, press agency or wire service before contacting the Cuban Interests Section or the CPI.

I spent a couple of weeks--October 2011--shooting in Havana and the Pinar del Rio area. Went in on a religious visa as I was documenting the work being done by an NGO/non-profit out of OK. Fantastic people. Fantastic trip. Love to go back for a longer period.
