I need a film scanner

I know there have been various discusions on this topic here before but things change. Previous models disappear and I'm not familiar with what's available at the moment. Ultimately I suspect film scanners will disappear altogether. I had an Epson which worked well for scanning documents, prints up to and beyond 8x10 as well as medium format and 35mm slides. But couldn't haul that with me from Asia so had to sell it. So I'm looking for something comparable, or better within a reasonable buget.

I checked it recently and nothing has changed much the last couple of years. At least nothing under $1000 as far as I know.

For 35mm I read some thumbs up for Plustek scanners. They announced some model for 120 mm too but I never hear about it in the recent times. Saludos

I have a Nikon COOLSCAN V ED for 35mm film + framed slides. i would happily sell it to you, if suits your needs. Haven't used it in ages. Boxed and in mint condition. http://www.nikonusa.com/en/Nikon-Products/Product-Archive/Film-Scanners/9239/COOLSCAN-V-ED.html

Thanks for the info. However, most of you refer to 35mm scanners whereas most of my pix are in fact 120 medium format. I also need to scan some 8x10 prints. What I want is a flatbed scanner somewhat like the Epson I had, but hopefully somewhat more compact.

I have a Scanmaker XL6 with Light Hood flatbed scanner which is now no longer used. The Scanner is a few years old and has SCSI interface, the Light Hood is unused still in it's box. Located in New Zealand

Epson still sells good flatbed scanners. I use the V750 and has all the possibilities you describe. Also wet scanning is possible with an accessory. Be aware that the software nowadays is a problem because most of those packages are not maintained anymore. Epson delivers SilverFast with the scanner but that doesn't run well on my Mac. I use VueScan that still is very actively is maintained and it delivers good quality.

Thanks for the info update. I'll check filmscanner.com and keep my eyes open for any place that still sells film scanners here in southern Germany. The Epson sounds good if I can find it.
