Best photography apps for iPhone

Just about to get an iPhone 4 (secondhand), and I was wondering: What are your favorite iPhone apps for photography and why?

In addition to the basic camera app (which I use far more than the masking programs), I use Hipstamatic, 6x6, 6x7, Camera+, Instagram (well, maybe), Simply B&W, Fisheye Lite, Fast Camera, PS Express, Marksta. The utility of each should be clear. I am not a heavy user of my iPhone camera (though I do use it regularly), so I may not be the best source of opinion here.

Focalware, which gives sunrise, moonrise, length of shadows at various times of day, positions of sun and moon, etc. for all locations and dates is very handy, especially if you travel. It is free.

Your are right, Matthew. I have had the app for several years. Either it was free then or my memory fails. Most likely the latter.

645pro is the absolute best when it comes shooting and retaining max bit depth and bypassing the iPhone inherent Jpeg compressor. Also Photoforge2 and Filterstorm for advanced post work and ITPC captioning (the ability to caption in Filterstorm is 2nd to none and it even beats photo mechanic ).
Marksta for water marking. Snapseed for quick post work. iLoader2pro for batch FTP upload.

This is my setup. The only reason it's so indepth is that a while ago I got hired to shoot an entire assignment (shot, post, caption and upload) all on the iPhone, so I spend a long time researching what's available.

Cheers

Very interesting, thanks for share. Ethan, if you can reply, why your client wanted an entire assignment covered with an iPhone? trend and marketing reasons, cause is an inconspicuous camera?

It was chosen mainly as the client needed a quick turnaround. It was actually a great experience, we agreed on two workflows. One is where they get the images FTP'd to them without any post work (except captioning), and the other is a color corrected stream at the end of the assignment. They loved it so much I stayed a week longer than planned :-)

The apps I mentioned above, worked flawlessly.
Hope this helps

Re: Best photography apps for iPhone

My set up is pretty much the same as Ethan's but with the addition of the Eye-Fi app, which allows (with the Eye-Fi SD card) to transfer images form a DSLR to the iPhone without any wires. From there I add IPTC info add watermark (if needed) and use Filterstorm app to send it either via email or FTP.

My camera allows me to correct exposure and colour etc. from RAW files that I have already captured, and use this method if they need correcting.
I also have PhotoRaw app that can handle raw conversion from a multitude of cameras if I need to do batch convert quickly.

Using the iPhone as a camera on its own exhausts the battery very quickly, so carry a charger or spare power like juice case or Power Traveler Extreme

Hey Ethan, I purchase 645pro after your comment and is good, is notorious the less compression shooting with good light. Include for the old Iphone 4 that I am using. Many thanks.

Hi Hernan, also try exploring the night shot feature, it's great (albeit you need to be super stable)

www.alamy.com have announced today that they are now accepting NEWS images from mobile phones which have been previously been banned due to quality concerns. Last year the Stock Library started a news wire service to its customers
