The Institute for Interactive Journalism and the McCormick Foundation are seeking to fund four women-led media projects that show promise in creativity and sustainability. We will fund U.S.-based individuals who have original ideas to create new websites, mobile news services or other entrepreneurial initiatives that offer interactive opportunities to engage, inspire and improve news and information in a geographic community or a community of interest. The McCormick New Media Women Entrepreneurs award provides $14,000 in funding to women who have the vision, skills and experience to launch a new venture. How it Works: - Awardees will receive an initial $12,000 in the first year. If they are able to raise $2,000 through their own efforts, they will receive an additional $2,000 in the second year. This money can be used for training, technical support or operations. - Projects that are in early beta (launched since Jan. 23, 2012) may apply. - Awardees will receive funding through a subcontract if they are an individual or affiliated with a business; and through a grant if they are affiliated with a non-profit institution. - Recipients must agree to post brief monthly blog updates to the www.newmediawomen.org website sharing their process and experience during the development stage. - Funding may not be used to cover indirect or overhead costs.
