end of black and white printing at print space?

i just was over at print space this aftrernoon picking up film and found out that the group rooms have been shut down becuase it costs too much to run them. there are still 4 private rooms a person can rent, however their future too is uncertain. to understand if anyone wants to continue using the private rooms they've begun collecting names to understand how many people are still intersted in using them. one idea being considered is having a group of photographers rent them on a group basis. anyway if you don;t want to see them go you should stop in or call 212-255-1919 and add your name to the list.

Jake,

Yikes! is all I can say. I spent all of January 2004 using Print Space's group B&W darkrooms to make some of the 5x7 workprints of the final prints you see in my LS gallery. Times really are a changin' is all I can say. I guess most everyone is either scanning negs and printing with Epsons or just shooting competely digital. Best, Davin.

come to toronto...you can still print b/w --theree are places like TIW (owned by Burtynsky, yes, Burtynsky the photographer:)))) and others that have both Private rooms and "group spaces"...as well as some communities/galleries which offer membership, like Gallery 44...if ny closes, come to toronto ;))))

...okay, running to the airport....

¡carajo! ¿Que pasa Nueva York? this is bad news. Though I think it would be a good idea to get a group of photographers together to come to some sort of arrangement with PrintSpace, which could turn out to be quite a good deal after all. Who knows, maybe I can pitch in somehow, because when I am in NY (rarely from now on I hope) I will need a lab. There is nothing down here and no supplies either.

oh man, this really sucks. Im out of the country until august, but just today I was planning on what I need to print at PRINT SPACE once i get home to NYC. It will be a sad day to see that place end its partnership with B&W, not that I print color, but I would imagine the color rooms are not too far behind in retirement as well.

Can we still purchase AGFA multi contrast classic fiber? Is that gone now too?
