I've used Garmin's StreetPilot system in rental cars, and it seems good. At this point I'm looking at getting either a c320 or a c330. She only needs data for North America. Anyone have advice on this? It's an 'outdoor' model. Hand held, kinda like a handheld lightmeter (in size). I can carry it with me if need be or it works great in car. Updated model is 60CSx. It has a slot for a SD card. Detailed map software, travel info, restaurants, etc is available separate. If you're looking for one that has all the maps already built-in this is not what you want. If you want one that travels easy, is econimical with (2) AA batteries, and you can carry with you on a hike or shoot this is it. Wed, 10 May 2006 10:01:54 +0000 http://www.lightstalkers.org/posts/garmin-dashboard-recommendations#26209 I have had the garmin palm gps, was nice but battery life was bad if not plugged into the car, sold it and now have the c330. it works amazing even in big cities it does not loose connection allot and reconects fast. comes loaded with everything you need as well it has a sd card slot if you would want to travel else where. also it is pc for now but i am told that their will be a mac software kit sometime in the near future. it is easy to use similar to the tomtom both are great. you really do not need the next one up it cost allot more and adds bluetooth. to me not worth enough to make the leap. but if your phone is blue tooth it would allow you to call and number on your gps, ie hotels or resturants or what ever hands free through your gps. kinda cool but not worth another $100+. cheers d* Wed, 10 May 2006 11:38:09 +0000 http://www.lightstalkers.org/posts/garmin-dashboard-recommendations#26224 I like my Garmin Quest2 a lot. This is a small handheld unit that securely suctions to any dash with a cig lighter adapter for power, making it easy to pack in carry on and slap on a rental care wherever you go. The battery last 20 hrs. if you want to pop it out and take it for a hike. It has address to address routing or search functions for anything in the yellowpages complete with telephone numbers. So, if you like checking out the camera shops in each city you arrive in, you can have it route you from one to the next. I've had good luck with www.thegpsstore.com. They're the experts. Good luck.
