They are smaller than imacon if you want to be able to travel with theme. On problem is, that at the passport controll, they often want to keep it for several days, Just to examine it. Nikon i have tryed and are sattisfied with theme. The scans are excellent (assuming you are using good scanning software such as VueScan), at a good price, but I wouldnt say the scanner is exactly portable. Its about the size of a toaster. If you can spend a lot more, the Cruse Synchron grand format scanner is a pearl, the archivists at The Vatican agree. Very near Imacon quality (have had same negs scanned on each). It weights around 20 kg and it's: 25cmx25cmx50cm. One good thing about Nikon is that for color the digital ice is really good and for dusty countries that's a plus.
