He was an editor at Outside at the time, and the primary architect of the story. Arranging the logistics and the access from the Pakistani and Indian governments took over a year before the trip, and a lot of doing on the ground as well. I worked pretty closely on the selection of the photos with the art director of the magazine, but the design and the size of the story were a surprise. Just told to Ben Lowy some pictures of his Darfur story were published in Italy and he did even know he had sold the story! The magazine "Internazionale" is actually a very nice mag. And uses really well pictures. It's a magazine similar to "Courrier International" in France but with better paper and better pics. In two words it's a mag that take articles of many magazines and newspapers in the world and translate them in Italian. Some nice stories on Israel were published but from the vision of 3 or 4 different angles. I would suggest actually that people from different countries suggested nice publications for photos so that in occasions like Perpignan people could make interesting contacts more than just the known importants ones: Le Monde 2, Time, Newsweek.... In Japan per example there is some amazing magazines that publish great pictures. I just wish I could understand Who's the photoeditor and his/her name because I'll be really happy to publish my work in such mags. In Italy for me the best are (no economics just way of publishing): News: Internazionale Documentary/travel (in a documentary way): D della Repubblica (weekend mag like could be NYT mag but not so slick) Way of life (not poor countries or social): Amica, Flair, Luna (they are all 3 women magazines and do a lot of fashion too) Fashion: The ones that do fashion know anyway all about the Italian classics. For England Foto8 is a must see!!!Must know!!! I'm a big fan! Just 4 issues a year, but hey! that's a photo magazine! Fri, 18 Mar 2005 17:48:31 +0000 http://www.lightstalkers.org/posts/colors#2154 pop is cool, too... god- you guys know so much! thanks, teru for answering thos questions of mine. so here's another (or two): 1) how DO you hande a magazine/site/ad that features your work, but you were not compensated or acknowledged? 2) still cogitating on my current final direction (must.focus.efforts. my nizzle) and thinking that fashion/music photo would be the most fun for me ( i hate to admit it- i am soooooo shallow in ways i won't totally cop to. no fun? no faith. the only fricken way i'm goin up a mountain is if there's vegan hot chocolate, cute models, and and some amazing clothes up at the top. bad, bad, girl...). amica, flair, luna sound right up my alley- but what really are the chance of getting in? cuz i'm at that point where i know a little too much to just jump...when i was dumber i took more chances. now i'm like- what if? what if? keeps a chick from really throwing that glock in tha air, ya heard me?
