The security situation is deteroriating, more than a few local NGO's have been held up for their cars, so watch out when you hire a car. as for crossing over, not a good idea. From the Ouri Cassoni camp in Bahai I could see Sudanese Army vehicles on the other side, waiting for the wadi's to dry. Also, fighting in the Guededa district... I just returned from Darfur and it has gotten much more difficult to work there since I went in late May. It is possible to still work but make sure you get the proper permissions - in addition to the visa to enter the country, you also need a travel permit to visit Darfur and if you want to go out of any of the 3 capitals you will need separate permissions. In addition, you will also most likely need to receive additional permissions to visit the camps. Even with the proper paperwork you have a great likelyhood of being harassed, but just make sure you are actually cleared to be where you are going...
