The deadline is 31st December. Have a look at the website www.changingideas.org for further information. Most of our applications so far are from photographers outside UK for international projects. The key is an idea that can achieve a measurable change

Re: Funding of assignments

The idea I got from their site was to bring attention to an under reported hidden subject and change responses, attitudes, habits to it, could be your local community, a pervading prejudice, a perpetuated stereotype. I don't think every proposal has to be Bleasdale like, on the front lines in dangerous zones. Or maybe I am wrong!

Robert,
Please think carefully about your proposed visit to Iraq and whether you will actually be able to photograph the minorities you wish to within the chaotic and unpredictable civil war that is the reality there.
I realise that you will of course have thought long and hard but I believe that only embeded journalists or those with a serious death wish enter Iraq.
32 dead in 2006.
Good luck

Applications need not be international or "Bleasdale" like. We have received applications dealing with domestic USA and UK issues. If Robert above shoots in Iraq then I ask him to think what is the difference that he is going to make with the photos and what is he trying to achieve or change and how does he think his photos will do so.

Has anyone received funding for assignments from these folks. What is your project? Where can it be seen? I would be interested in seeing who and what they have funded so far and the changes they are making. Sounds great. It has been about a year since the call to action was posted so I would think some of these projects have been funded and completed by now and I would like to view some of the photos.

We have both funded and are in the process of working with ongoing projects. Funded projects have included a project with Human Rights Watch and cluster munitions - "HRW Film":http://hrw.org/video/2007/clusters0207/video.htm

There are several other initiatives underway and further information will be made available on our website "Changing Ideas":http://www.changingideas.org at the appropriate time.

Meanwhile if you are aware of a project that can make a difference then please apply.

John, the website says "Tangible results", specifically "change in law or corporate behaviour" if that helps. It also looks like the fund now doesn't have a deadline, they accept rolling applications, rather than the Dec 31 deadline David referred to when he first posted this in 2006...

Re: Funding of assignments

@ Saeed Taji Farouky: ChangingIdeas.Org and back to where you started makes me think of an idea of Europe as Quasi-Paradise that has to change: Thanks a lot for this story. I'm Nigerian and correpondent of Times Publications, London in Turkey...and know how difficult and extremely dangerous it can be to talk about ideas as a human and as a journalist or fiction-writer; about freedom or religion even in my family, as I am consideed atheist though I do not qualify my beliefs or will prefer to call my religion 'The Abolition of Poverty' which will make the whole world glue to full-employment or socail insurance in cash as teh EU furnishes its citizens with, with money being printed, obviously: and I'm a graduate of Finance ad Banking and will like to express my disbelief in the advancement of 'developed economies' by mafiosi styled Marshall Plans impossible when evrything is equal; that the uffering in Africa as its Presidents enjoy will be paid for in he 21st century of Unequaled Geometrical Advanement in THE RE-DEFINITION and ACHIEVEMENT OF EVERYTHING; and there are places in Nigeria that I won't go to as it is in most countries (I have visited and worked in 26 countries so far... lies of progress and culture like the US where my mother lives but there are countless neighbourhoods where the President can't show up in...; Switzerland, where I worked as correspondent for 8 years and violence is as rife as the so-called illegal immigrants breaking car windows so that they can be arrested and sleep in a prison-bed in winter or threaten to kill if all is not well... and they are undocumented residents of Sitzerland o Above The Law most of the time; Iran, Ireland and Pakistan can wait since not much is different to me in Europe. In Turkey, where I work now, I can freely express my beliefs but a citizen cannot express the same in the light or darness of honour and familiarity.
I'm thinking of writing a story which exposes the horrors of religion, torture, honour, naturalized citizens and the so-called illegal immigrants in Europe, and the US since categorizing Switzerland as a free country is a farce when people are handcuffed before being beaten up in a Geneva Police Station; where I am delayed for questioning and missed my flight in Turkey; where lynching seems to be a thing of the past and police torture (last month in Seattle) is rampant a Senator in Switzerland had to call the Police to explain that having a UN Press Card, a Swiss Press Card and a visa with an indefinite time limit in Switzerland means I am a legal resident in Switzerland ; where my residence permit for Turkey is annulled and then replaced because I sued The Foreign Office for irregularities and corruption; where violence in France is directed at foreigners and now that the world has to know there are more requirements to be fulfilled before Switzerland, France, Denmark an Tukey make it to the top while Nigeria and Iran are among war-torn countries in The Freedom Index while they all have to be in the same category, more so wen injustice in one-world is a threat to so-called justice.
