Fixers in Kurdistan
Dear friends! Could you help me to find a fixer in turkish Kurdistan? He must be kurdish, and it would be much better if he speaks not only English but also German.
Thank you very much!

Kurdistan?
I don’t mean to nitpick but you’d be better off saying you’re looking for someone in SE Turkey or more specifically Diyarbakir. And more importantly you’d be better off not mentioning the K word too much.
There was a thread in the past 2/3 days looking for the same so there’s another LSer about who might be bale to help you. Just had a quick look there but cant see it immediately. Be safe out there cos it’s looking pretty tense.

Julia, you can certainly find someone via contacting DIHA News Agency; it is a Kurdish one mostly operating in south-eastern Turkey. I have a friend working there, she may maybe help you or find someone. I’m gonna ask her and send you a note if I can get anything.

Thank you! Do you know if we need an acceditation to enter this region? Five years ago it was free, but I dont know how it is now. Do we need some special permission to shoot?
|
No problem to accede the region as there is no state of emergency in the region since 2002 and I don’t think you might experience any problem for shooting as major media companies are already there and they are all shooting.
I also don’t think you would experience any problem for any special authorization; although army officials may ask your ID and other personnal documents if you cross a checkpoint, and occasionaly become a pain in the ass if they see you’re a freelancer.
I’m gonna ask tomorrow to some mates for more information about the work conditions in the region as I personally never went there as journalist.
But anyway I think with a good fixer you would experience no problem.
