I’m here in DUMBO (which for the uninitiated stands for Down Under The Manhattan Bridge Overpass) and so are several thousand others from the photo industry. I’ve seen a number of people from various prior LS-related activities and expect to see more at the LS get-together at reBar this afternoon at 6 p.m.
In an article this morning, the NY Times said “Anyone with even a slight interest in contemporary photography should go to Dumbo for the…Festival this weekend.” That’s true, and this first-year event is off to a rip-roaring start.
I’ve been running from event to event and have not had a chance to do much shooting (plus being ravaged by a terrible cold), but below are a few shots I quickly made of what’s going on around DUMBO.
First, the Registration Desk at powerHouse arena. This and the next three shots were taken with a Canon G9, a nifty little camera, which Canon has available for two-hour loan to anyone here.

Here LS member Jan Kampenaers (who obsessed about his slide show on LSers last week) finally presents it—on monuments in the former Yugoslavia preserved and destroyed:

Meanwhile, on the street, fellow photographers go about earning their living. Apparently the views of DUMBO regularly draw model shoots to its streets.

And around the corner a different model swings her bag.

Then at the VII Seminars, first Ron Haviv does an introduction:

Then Franco Pagetti, the newest VII member (but a long-time conflict photographer), shows some of his work from Iraq.

Others who are in attendance here please add shots and comments to this. Its quite an event.
