7th km MarketThe ‘7th km Market’, with 20 thousand dealers, is the biggest open air market of Europe. It is situated 7 km from Odessa. Managed by four active partners, actually it is in the middle of a gigantic lawsuit at the Civil Court of Odessa. The municipality (even if the Market is not in its territory) is reclaiming one million Euro as tax in arrears. The four associate managers of the Market are resisting. Now, there is also the Province of Odessa which is contesting the ownership. On that peculiar ground, Odessa wants to construct the utilities of the European Football Championships (2012). A boundless ‘war’ for such a big business worth millions of Euro. The Market is constituted majorly of containers bought from Black Sea Shipping, a bankrupt shipping company, that had its seat in the port of Odessa and was the biggest company of the world. 45 per cent of the wares that arrive at the port of Odessa finish at the 7th km Market. The containers are rented for approximatively 3 thousand dollars per month. In the market, one can find dealers of every nationality, but mostly Chinese.
